Honouring John “JP” Glaves – A Legacy of Passion, Dedication, and Heart.
It is with deep sorrow and a heavy heart that we dedicate our participation in Hockey Fights Cancer this year to our beloved coach, JP Glaves.
JP’s untimely passing on November 5th, 2024, following complications related to cancer, has left an immense void in our team and in our hearts. As a coach, father, and friend, JP was a beacon of strength, wisdom, and unwavering support, and his impact on our team will never be forgotten.
For the past three seasons, JP stood proudly on our bench, giving his all to help guide, motivate, and inspire the young athletes who were fortunate enough to play under his coaching. From the first practice to the final game, JP was not just a coach—he was a mentor, a role model, and a source of constant encouragement. His passion for hockey was infectious, and his belief in the players' potential was unwavering. JP was there every step of the way, helping our young athletes believe in themselves and pushing them to exceed their limits both on and off the ice.
JP’s love for the game of hockey was matched only by his commitment to the players. He never hesitated to give his time, his energy, and his heart to ensure that every player felt valued, respected, and motivated to do their best, even on his hardest days battling cancer. Whether it was a hard-fought win or a challenging loss, JP's presence was always a steadying force. His tactical insights were invaluable, and his passion for helping the players develop not just as athletes, but as individuals, set him apart.
The players on our team looked up to him in ways that words can’t truly capture. His ability to teach lessons, both through the game and through life, left an indelible mark on everyone who had the privilege to learn from him. JP’s lessons weren’t always about what happened on the ice—although his tactical knowledge and sharp coaching mind were invaluable—but they were also about how to face adversity with grace, how to push through challenges with resilience, and how to always give your best effort, no matter the circumstances.
JP was more than just a coach—he was a friend to many, a mentor to all, and an amazing father to our teammate Henry, Poppy, and loving husband to Mel. His genuine care for the well-being of the team, his relentless optimism, and his infectious spirit are what made him so special. He understood that the sport was about more than just wins and losses—it was about building relationships, creating memories, and showing up for each other, both on and off the ice.
In honouring JP’s memory, we want to celebrate the impact he had on each of us. He was a coach who taught us the true meaning of teamwork, leadership, and perseverance. His legacy is one of selflessness, dedication, and a profound love for the game and the people in it.
As we participate in Hockey Fights Cancer this year, we do so in JP’s honour. We are committed to raising funds to support those affected by cancer, as we know that JP’s fight—and his ability to inspire others to fight alongside him—will continue to be a part of our hearts and minds for years to come. This campaign is not just about raising money for cancer research—it’s about paying tribute to a man who gave so much to our team, and to others, even in his toughest battles.
To Mel, Henry, and Poppy—our hearts are with you. The love and strength JP showed every day will continue to inspire us, and we are here for you always. We are proud to honour JP’s legacy through this campaign, and we will continue to push forward, just as he would have wanted, knowing that his spirit will always be with us on the ice.
Thank you to everyone who has supported us in this endeavour and who continues to remember JP’s extraordinary contributions to our lives. We ask that you share this page far and wide, as we continue to raise awareness and funds in his honour. Every donation is a step toward ensuring that future generations of players will benefit from the same hope, strength, and passion that JP instilled in us all.
JP, you will always be part of this team, and your memory will live on in each of us, forever.
