2024 has been one hell of a ride. At 32 years old, I never imagined life would look like this. After being diagnosed with a stage 2 invasive ductal carcinoma and starting chemotherapy, I’ve learned just how important community, support, and research are. As a retired professional hockey player, I’ve faced challenges on the ice, but this is the most personal fight of my life. I can’t begin to explain how incredibly grateful for the outpouring of love, kindness, and encouragement I’ve received from friends, family, and even strangers. The only thing that would make this situation scarier would be facing this alone, and as crazy as it may sound, I feel lucky that I have so many people supporting me through this battle. In addition to my friends and family, the doctors, nurses, and volunteers at the hospital are truly heroes. My only hope is that through our fundraising efforts we can create the same type of support system for someone else.
On December 21, 2024 the Canadian Cancer Society, the PWHL, the Toronto Sceptres and The Mississauga Fire Community are coming together in a united effort to fight for a cure.
Funds for cancer research give hope, create breakthroughs, and save lives. Every dollar brings us closer to innovative treatments, earlier detection, and, ultimately, a cure. Your support means the world to me and countless others who are walking this path.
Together, we can make a difference.
